Of Motorcades, Street Fairs, and George and Sarah and Chris

Part One: The Floor Show is About to Start

The 2nd televised debate between Obama and McCain took place in Nashville in October 2008. I was there. Flew in Monday night.

I landed and walked over one gate to meet my friend, John Morgan, the George Dubya impersonator, and his wife Kathy. But they had not yet landed. So, I waited for about 45 minutes. Meantime, the curious looks and furtive glances kept coming my way from other airport patrons.

As the line for the next flight out grew at that gate, waiting for the flight to arrive from Orlando, I began to have some fun with the crowd; they were captive, standing in line like that, so I mentioned that I was waiting for G.W. Bush to deplane as soon as he landed – which finally occurred.

People coming through the jetway were laughing and smiling as they entered the terminal – and then laughed and pointed at me, because G.W. had entertained them on the plane and now, here was Bill Clinton to meet them.

I prepared the entire line of waiting travelers, as well as many of those just disembarking, to hang out and give ‘Dubya’ a welcome – I organized a greeting party for him!

Everyone laughed and cheered as G.W. finally came through – he had been taking photos with the flight crew!

Now, everyone wanted photos with ’43 and ’42…so we happily obliged.
